I’ve got some incredibly talented, focused, curious students from all over Baltimore in my Algebra II classes. Students at our school are taught to be caring, thoughtful citizens who are focused on success in a variety of different ways.
My female scholars are tackling college-preparatory work day-in and day-out.
They work hard, they ask great questions, and they always strive for complete understanding of what is being learned.
I love teaching my girls new math concepts as well as ones that they have previously learned in new ways. Nothing is better than hearing them exclaim “Ohhhhhhh!” or “That’s how that works”.
My students are tackling difficult math concepts on a daily basis. We are learning currently learning about how extraneous solutions occur when solving certain types of equations. My students can articulate their learning on so many high-level math concepts when we learn as I class, but I need to empower them to make smart choices on their own. My students need everyday access to good calculators so they can understand what they are doing more deeply and be able to prove why they are correct.
All donations to this project will help to improve my students' confidence in knowing that they are correct in their thinking by having evidence to back up their claims.
Having access to calculators will allow them to make definite claims about their work and back them up with mathematical evidence and reasoning.
In my class, I put the power of the learning process into my students' hands. I need them to be able to take control of their learning, be confident in their decisions, and unwavering in their thoughts so we can grapple with college-preparatory mathematics every day.
