My Project
As the teacher of a diverse group of 3rd- to 5th-grade English as a Second Language (ESL) students, I am aware of the unique challenges they face in their literacy development. They often struggle with limited access to age-appropriate and engaging reading materials at home and in school. Without appropriate resources, my students struggle to engage in meaningful literacy activities that are essential for their academic success. I want to restock our classroom library with a diverse set of leveled books that are of high interest to and meet the reading abilities of my students. Also, I would like to get a small bookshelf for our reading corner to help transform it into an inviting space that encourages exploration and a genuine love for reading.
Providing these essential resources is not just about improving literacy; it is about fostering a sense of belonging and self-worth among my students.
The new reading corner will create a dedicated area where my students can dive into stories, interact with peers through shared reading experiences, and develop comprehension and vocabulary in a comfortable setting. These resources will help my students navigate their social environment with a sense of pride in their identity and literacy achievements.
