My Project

Books have the power to transform lives—one page, one story, one student at a time. In my high school classroom, I have seen firsthand how the right book, placed in the right hands, can inspire confidence, curiosity, and connection. That’s why I am passionately working to build a classroom library that reflects the diverse voices, cultures, and identities of the students I serve.

Reading isn’t just a skill; it’s a gateway to empathy, imagination, and empowerment.

For many students, especially those who don’t often see themselves represented in traditional school texts, a classroom library can be their first experience with stories that affirm who they are and introduce them to lives far different from their own. My goal is to provide a space where students feel seen and celebrated—and where books become tools of exploration and healing.

Over the past two years, my classroom library has steadily grown, and so has student interest in reading. What began as a small shelf of titles has now turned into one of the most loved areas in our classroom. Students regularly browse for books, recommend favorites to friends, and ask when new titles are coming. Some students who once said they “didn’t like reading” now get excited to check out a book that speaks to their experiences or interests. This shift has been incredible to witness.

With your support, I can continue expanding our library with high-interest, culturally relevant books that reflect my students’ realities and broaden their horizons. I want to include more stories written by authors of color, books that tackle real-world issues, novels that center joy and resilience, and texts that invite students to think critically and creatively. I am also requesting a few basic classroom supplies like markers, hand sanitizer, and tissues.
