In EPF and Civics, they are constantly moving between a reading, a set of notes, and a task like a budget spreadsheet or a primary source analysis. With three screens, they can keep the source on one, their notes on another, and their work on the third, so they spend less time clicking between tabs and more time thinking. They can compare documents side by side, build a budget while referencing a pay stub, and keep our class slides open while they work. Students stay focused longer, and I see fewer \"I lost my place\" moments.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is that it feels like a real workspace. They like having a setup that looks like what adults use at work, and they talk about it that way. For students at an early college who are already preparing for college expectations, that connection to the real world matters. I cannot wait to use it for an upcoming budget project, where students need the directions and their actual spreadsheet open at the same time.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially taken to it. One of my students loves having multiple screens up at once because his mind moves faster than a single screen can keep up with. During our research project, he was thrilled to spread out his sources, notes, and draft across the screens and work at his own pace. The extender lets him think the way he naturally does, and it has made him more independent and confident in his research. Your gift has already made a difference.\r\n\r\nSo far, my Civics classes have used the new colored pencils and markers on an executive department superhero project. Each student designed a hero to represent a department of the executive branch, and then colored it in.\r\n\r\nThe moment that stuck with me was when I broke out the skin-tone pencils and markers. Students were so happy. They told me they usually have to pick a color that is too light or too dark, so they just leave the skin the color of the paper. With these materials, they didn't have to do that anymore. It's a small thing, but every student got to see themselves and their classmates in their work.\r\n\r\nNext, my Economics and Personal Finance classes will use the materials to bring types of credit to life. Each student will create and color a Funko Pop-style figure to personify a type of credit, like a credit card, a student loan, or a mortgage. The books arrived right before the students left for summer break and we had time to do one more assignment with on the book, using our new novels! They were so excited and one kid said, \"We have the nice books now!\" A book, unfortunately, is often judge by its cover, even though we preach that it shouldn't be. The fact that I had to give kids other copies of the book because it was missing pages is why they judged. As we go into next year, I am excited to have these new books, garner new enthusiasm, and teach students the value of walking in someone else's skin, without having to get them to look past the cover (ironic, I know). Your donation made that possible. I am so incredibly grateful and I will make sure to mention you as we open the books each year. Our school is in its third year and students decided to begin a morning news club the first year. The club fizzled out and students this school year decided to revive the club. Because of our unique circumstances as an early college high school, we are able to host student led clubs once a week for an hour. Previously, the club had use of one vlog kit, but that wasn't enough for all members to be out and about recording interviews and story segments.\r\n Because of your generosity, students now have access to three vlog kits and one video camera. We have already been able to use our new materials in various ways. We have had students record a student-led fashion show where student designers and their friends modeled their designs. We were also able to record students as they created commercials for their Econ and Finance classes. We are now able to have multiple students recording instead of one at a time, which strained our already limited time each week. The quality of our show has improved because of the lighting and stands that come with the vlog kits, as well as the advanced tech of the video camera, which connects to your phone via wifi.
