My Students

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." - John Dewey. My 21st-century learners are enthusiastic about hands-on, digital learning. They relate best to apps in class as a result of the amount of time they spend on their personal technology devices.

My students make up a third of the roughly 400 ninth graders at our county's public high school of almost 1,500 students.

These students come from four separate feeder schools; they make up five sections of English 9, and one section of the composition. They are diverse in the ways they learn where they excel and struggle at a variety of levels. Regardless of those levels, they all desire to learn and advance. Plus, they all have excellent attitudes towards trying new things.

My Project

I am requesting earphones and a bluetooth speaker for my students to use when they are in class learning. Now that we are one-to-one with Chromebooks, my students are faced with assignments which require sound. They work at their own pace, and the varying sounds can be distracting for students. Having their own designated pair of earbuds that we keep in the classroom can benefit the students and their learning practices.

Then there are moments where playing music can be just what everyone needs.

Having a bluetooth speaker that plays music clearly will do just that. The speaker will also be perfect for days when we are listening to the audiobooks as a whole class.
