This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching at one of the largest, and diverse, high schools in Mississippi. We are located in the upper north part of Mississippi, minutes away from Memphis. My students aren't afraid to be themselves, something I admire them for. My choirs have a large spectrum of personalities, backgrounds, and walks of life. Music is what brings us together. I am happy that my classroom is where young people can put their differences aside and come together for a common goal, which is to make beautiful music.
My Project
Having the ability to listen to music is vital in my classroom. I record my students' rehearsals and performances on a regular basis. We use these recordings to critique performances in order to perfect our craft. I also play several recordings for my classes so that they can hear other choirs and ensembles.
We are currently using a small soundbar to listen to these recordings, but it is not very loud and the sound is muffled.
It makes it hard for us to have an accurate representation of how we sound. Having a new sound system will enable us to hear our recordings loud and clear!
