Turn Up The Learning

Help me give my students head phones to help them fully access their online programs, speech classes, and ESL classes.

My Students

As many already know, 5th graders are the best! I am lucky enough to see 29 students every single day. My 5th graders are goofy, sensitive, chatty, intelligent, kind, wonderful, and they are hard workers. I am with my 5th graders all day, for reading, math, social studies, and writing. Currently we have 15 students in person, and 14 virtual.

My 15 students just came back to in person learning on March 11th.

Many of the students in my class are new to our school. We also serve many students with disabilities. Many of our in-person students felt all the emotions coming back to in person.

Our city is the poorest large city in the United States. Though we have many beautiful prestigious universities, where 1 out of every 6 doctors in the United States have received his or her medical degree, we also have neighborhoods that are in food deserts and filled with poverty and violence.

My students come each and every day ready to learn. They are joyful, respectful, and eager to learn. They deserve only the best, and Donor's Choose has been instrumental in making sure they get the best.

My Project

Help my in-person students have headphones to fully access the curriculum and their online programs.

Headphones would benefit both our students with and without disabilities, and our emerging bilingual students .

Having a class set of headphones would allow all students to access their online programs and specialized services while in the classroom.

Our in-person class is amazingly diverse in both background and ability. We have 3 students who have speech class over Zoom each week, 3 students who receive English Language Learning instruction, and one student who receives both Speech and ESL. The noise-canceling headsets with the microphone will allow them to focus and participate in their speech and ESL classes even with them being in a room with other people.

We also have another student who utilizes speech-to-text to assist him in his writing. These headphones with the microphone would allow the Chromebook to more accurately pick up his voice.
