My Students

I currently teach 4th grade, and I have 28 amazing students in my class. Our school serves students in PK-4th grade. The majority of the students at our school are on free or reduced lunch due to low socioeconomic status. This often makes it difficult for these students to participate in life experiences that broaden their horizons and engage their minds. Despite the difficulties our school and student body often face, our students continue to perform well and make tremendous growth on achievement tests.

I am honored to help these students meet their full potential.

They are bright, loving, and resilient. They come to school happy with huge smiles on their faces in the mornings. I believe our school is more of a home to them than just an institution. I strive to create a positive and nourishing learning environment for them every single day.

My Project

This year we want to do whole class novel studies. So many texts in our Reading series are nonfiction. Although, nonfiction reading is important and essential within our curriculum, I believe focusing on fiction literary pieces will enhance students' enthusiasm about reading.

Reading fiction enhances a student's ability to empathize with other's and see the world from another perspective.

Students are able to relate to and make connections with the characters and their experiences. This ability is essential for intellectual and emotional growth, which often go hand-in-hand.

My goal is for the class to do three book studies on The Lemonade War, The Lemonade Crime, and The Candy Smash. I believe that reading these novels together as a whole class will be a fun and educational experience for the students. I want students to recognize reading as an enjoyable activity that can open up a whole world within their minds.
