Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When my students enter fourth grade they have high expectations for me, and I for them. They hope that their teacher will be nice, they hope they'll make friends, and they hope to get smarter every day. I hope to create an environment where they feel safe, comfortable, and will make the most progress that they possibly can. In order to do this they need me to be a step ahead, anticipating their needs and desires. This includes providing basic materials and supplies for them so that they have what they need to get smarter every day.
Some students come to school hungry, tired, or lacking the stamina it takes to be successful.
I want to change that. 100% of students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Providing nutrients is a key part of ensuring success, but I want more for them. My students deserve the very best, they deserve to have access to the very same resources as students in other towns and cities with access to more resources. I want them to come to school excited, leave school excited, and go to bed excited for tomorrow; never feeling like there was something missing.
My Project
In the digital world that we live, it has become increasingly important for children to develop digital literacy skills. In my classroom, we use computers for individualized learning every day. The headphones we had were old and cheap and broke easily.
I superglued with the best of them, but by June my 27 students were trying to listen and learn through one ear piece, or with the volume low so that others weren't disrupted.
It was discordant to say the least, and certainly interfered with students' learning. 60 new pairs of headphones will make an enormous difference for student learning!
