Some students just need to quiet environment to tune out of and read. I am a Communication Arts teacher in a middle school setting (grades 6 through 8).
Many of the students I see have trouble "focusing" on the books they read. There are too many distractions that keep them from fully comprehending and/or focusing on what they are reading. I've found that by having the student read a book with the audio version (while using earbuds) students have an easier time of "tuning into" the book and getting away from outside distractions that keep them from reading.
I have a copy of each of the requested books. However, with the addition of nine Playaways for each of these books, I feel a lot of students--and their reading time-- would benefit because they would have extra support while tuning out distractions.
Your help will ensure that my students, and other students at my school, will be able to focus on their reading while hearing the words at the same time. This will allow students the opportunity to remove themselves from distractions and become fully engaged in their books.
