Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students truly are shining STARS! We have a very diverse campus of students in Grades K-5. As their music teacher, I have the honor of helping them shine on and off the stage. Especially through our most recent challenge as a school family.

Our elementary school was flooded during Hurricane Harvey last year and our students and staff were displaced onto two different campuses (K-2 at one school and 3-5 at another school).

I travelled between the two schools all year to teach them and tried to help create a sense of normalcy through music. I am so proud of their resiliency and how we persevered!

My Project

My students and I are thrilled to have recently received twenty brand new ukuleles from a previous Donors Choose project! Now that we have the instruments in hand, we realize that we need help getting them all in tune in an effective and efficient way. We also need a kid friendly curriculum that will have us all starting on the same page!

The Snark Tuner brand is known for making quality products and the Pitch Hill Rainbow Ukulele program is known for being an excellent method book for beginners!

Please help us get a class set of clip on tuners and student method books so we can tune up and strum down!
