Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My prekindergarten students are amazing. I teach a PreK class of 16 four and five year old children of different backgrounds and levels. Many of my students come from hard working families who are struggling financially. These children attend VPK, which is a free, voluntary prekindergarten program offered by the state of Florida.
My students come to school smiling every day and are ready to learn.
They are curious learners who are inquisitive. As a result, they are always asking questions and making new discoveries. They love to come to school every day.
I provide my students with pencils, paper, crayons, scissors, glue and books to read. I also provide them with experiences that help them understand and remember what I teach them. My students truly deserve to have a learning environment that makes them feel comfortable and safe!
My Project
I inherited a 12 year old VPK classroom. The tables do not provide a very comfortable learning environment. My students currently use 2 kidney tables for small group time and learning time. These kidney tables are very wide and take up a lot of space.
I feel that all students benefit from having an adequate work space.
However, my classroom does not offer that for them. I currently have to sit 10 students at each kidney table. The chairs are very close together and I always have two students that sit against the metal legs of the table. Needles to say...It is not very comfortable. My students do not like to be bumping each other.
My classroom would feel more spacious and provide adequate work space with new longer tables. These longer tables would comfortably fit 10 chairs. As a result, my students would be able to work more comfortably since they would have their own personal space.
