Trust us, Science is in our DNA!

My students need Laboratory Centrifuge with Timer and Speed Control in order to perform various genetic engineering experiments. It is an inspiring activity that will give them a hands-on experience in a STEM field.

My Students

99% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. More than half of my students are from a single- or no-parent homes. Nevertheless, they are very eager to learn, but due to lack of exposure beyond their neighborhood environments, they are left to settle for less than what their peers in other neighborhoods aspire towards.

To compound matters, budget cuts in the school district continue to siphon much needed funds from the classroom.

I teach science with no laboratory to conduct labs. I teach science with no lab equipments to conduct a standard-based scientific lab. More than 90% of my students do not have the experience of going out to see how scientists are engaging in different scientific endeavors.

My students are very passionate about science. I want them to get a full and enriched experience of science that would motivate them to get into STEM and other related careers. I want them to discover their innate potential and aspire to greater heights beyond what their environment provides.

My Project

Living organisms are made up of DNA. Students understand this concept better through hands-on experiences extracting DNA from various organisms.

They use various restriction enzymes to cut the DNA, and perform gel electrophoresis to analyze DNA fragments and sizes, and how restriction sites are used in various genetic engineering applications.

Students will also try to combine DNA fragments from different organisms to form a hybrid. They will use work with plasmids to understand the priniples of bacteria transformation

Introducing our students to such a learning environment will introduce them to opportunities they may not even know they were interested in.
