Students work together to meet shared goals and celebrate milestones as a group. The new materials have sparked so much energy, and students are eager to explore new stories.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the resources, their eyes lit up. It was such a joyful moment to see their excitement and curiosity come alive.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're building on that momentum with a classroom-wide SEL project. Each team is tracking their progress, discussing books, and sharing what they've learned. The next step will be having students present their favorite reads to their peers, helping them practice speaking skills while also inspiring others to pick up a book and share SEL strategies.","fullyFundedDate":1736536472802,"projectUrl":"project/creating-an-equitable-safe-and-welcomi/8788484/","projectTitle":"Creating an Equitable, Safe, and Welcoming Classroom for All Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ruback","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9017761_orig.jpg?crop=1373,1373,x2093,y1840&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716905196094","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9017761"},{"teacherId":4859765,"projectId":9512598,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing snacks for our middle school lunch groups. I have enjoyed explaining to the students the useful ways they can utilize this portion of my classroom. Even though it is in the gymnasium, where things can often look hectic and chaotic, the area is tucked into a specific corner and the students have been receptive to its purpose.\r\n\r\nThe students were excited to see all of the items that I was able to provide through your generous donations. I have several students who go immediately to the area upon entering the gym so that they can grab a fidget toy for a few minutes or to read the positive affirmation posters that the calming corner provides.\r\n\r\nIn more than one instance, students who were struggling through their day chose to retreat to the Restorative area to color a picture, use a manipulative item, or draw a picture of their own to share. Additionally, it has also been a source of safety for any student who has been physically unable to participate in class due to an injury.\r\n\r\nAs you can see in the photos, the cubbies keep everything organized and the students know to return anything they borrowed before they leave the classroom. This initiative is available to all 500+ students in the building and I am happy to provide a space for those who need it.\r\n\r\nIt has helped tremendously in class as a place for students to go when they are experiencing trouble with a peer, anxiety or just need a brief pause from our activities.\r\n\r\nI look forward to continuing having this area in place for my students and I hope it is something that they will look back on and remember that it was a safe space for them.","fullyFundedDate":1728061019376,"projectUrl":"project/restorative-resourcecalming-corner-2/8808396/","projectTitle":"Restorative Resource/Calming Corner 2","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Piroh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9750678"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_43581","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":538,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.7,"schoolId":43581,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about David Wooster Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"David Wooster Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/stratford-public-schools/david-wooster-middle-school/43581"}
