My Students
I am an ENL Teacher (formerly known as ESL). This school year, 2020-2021, I teach both the Regents and non-Regents classes. All students are learning remotely. Some students made this online learning work for them, yet some are still struggling to adjust.
Regardless of the situation, they all must adjust to the current situation.
Several students who struggled in person, are doing greatly via online learning because they are free of unnecessary distractions.
What is rewarding during this time is that one specific class of students always log in and never miss my class, which may sound suspicious. Their reason for their perfect attendance is that they look forward to my class because I make it fun and interactive. Some students said that they always look forward to a different digital background I put behind me, some said that they like my make-up, and some said that they like all that digital interaction.
When I heard positive comments from my students, it's like gasoline. It's like I fill my tank up all the way to the top. I catch the second breath and become even more creative because it's all worth it for them.
My Project
These books will be used to help my students with their literacy skills. These stories are true stories and my students can relate to them. They are so much fun to read. Students enjoy them because they are able to read them on their reading level. These books are very popular among ESL students. Each story has pre-reading and post-reading activities such as vocabulary, comprehension questions, discussion questions, and writing prompts. They are extremely useful for high-beginning and low-intermediate ESL students. These books prepare my students very well for the English Proficiency Test (NYSESLAT) that they have to take every year.
