This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students enjoy art. They are intent listeners and engaged in conversation when we talk about it.

My students are enthusiastic learners who struggle with a true art experience.

Most of them have limited access to museums or art supplies outside of school and do not associate art with learning. They color using basic crayons for enjoyment, and I would like to change that for them. I would like for them to truly engage in multi-media art forms that help them meet their standards and explore art. Our classroom consists of only basic supplies for art (crayons and very little art paper).

My Project

I currently teach Visual Arts to the whole fifth grade class. During our time together the students have been learning about and discussing the elements of art and how artists use them. We have basic supplies, but I would really like to give them true art experiences. Their work in art should be more than crayons and blank paper.

They have learned the basics of art, color, and design, and now I would like to see them soar into their expression and creativity.

Using art canvases and the primary colors, along with black and white, they can truly use their art skills and knowledge to create beautiful works of art.
