My students are a group of physically challenged students who are in a substantially separate setting do to their needs. They are energetic and dynamic but sometimes it is hard to include them in mainstreams settings. My students are often lower academically than many of their mainstream peers of the same age.
More than 75% of the class comes from families that are considered high poverty.
The students come from a wide variety of nationalities and cultures. The students and staff have created an environment that celebrates diversity. The school has a wonderful inclusive environment for all its students.
The Franklin Park Zoo has wonderful exhibits and is accessible for children in wheelchairs. The students are working on a science unit about living things. We are studying habitats of different animals and creatures. The students are learning to compare different types of animals and recognize this attributes.
Our special students have never been to the zoo.
The zoo is not far from the school but is not accessible by the public transportation system. In years past we have taken the students to the Aquarium and the Animal Rescue League but have never been to the Zoo because we could not get there.
