This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Unfortunately, I am unable to supply "new tricycles" for my students. The bikes we currently have do not belong to my classroom or Preschool for All Learners (PAL) program they are shared between many classes and age ranges thus they are old and tattered from previous years and used by other students. I am requesting new tricycles so my students will learn how to share, take turns, and -- most importantly – work on their gross motor skills learning how to use their eye hand coordination and motor planning.
This project is important to not only myself, as a special education teacher, but for my students and their families.
Some of the reasons why students are in our program is their delayed development of social/communication skills, among other physical disabilities. Parents are encouraged when they hear their children talk about their "toys at school" or "what they did at school." As an educator, I want to encourage the development of these social/communication skills as well as physical development facilitation, and I am more than confident that providing these bikes will make a difference in my students school experience.
