My Students

"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." - John Muir We want our second graders to walk in their natural surroundings and receive a real education about their environment. We are an environmental studies school that wants to empower our students with first-hand experiences.

We are an eclectic group of children brought together by our desire to learn about our environment.

We have standard English language learners and English language development learners. We have many different cultures in this mix of close to 70 children. We are a Title I school, so we receive federal funding to assist with free and reduced price lunches.

My Project

My students need a bus to visit the Tree People. According to the Tree People flier, "Eco-tours lead students on a guided field trip through TreePeople’s headquarters at Coldwater Canyon Park. Elementary groups learn about the natural cycles at work in our city and secondary groups learn about the basic forest principles used in the sustainable elements demonstrated at TreePeople. Students can receive a native tree for planting at home."

California is in a major crisis with the drought.

Even if El Nino does come this year, it will not solve this crisis. We need to make our students aware of steps they can make to help their own futures. Taking learning off the page will only help this process.
