This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere. My 3rd-grade class is in a high-need, low-income public school, nestled in the heart of Southern California. Each of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner who looks for the next opportunity to gain knowledge.

Each child in my classroom is a unique learner who comes to school each day ready to achieve at the highest levels.

As a teacher, it is my job to make sure the students have access to the materials they need, at all times, as well as use those materials in a way that will facilitate higher learning and achievement.

My Project

Writing narratives is a difficult task for students. Teaching them to focus in on one specific moment, telling each of the details of that experience only, is quite a feat for the kids. It is really hard for them to figure out what is important to talk about and what is not.

But using candy to give the students new experiences to write about, and helping them write in the moment, is the perfect way to work on narrative writing!

Using the candy to give the students a new experience is the perfect way to get the kids writing, focusing in on a moment. These materials will provide the students with three different writing pieces, all focusing in on a moment in the narrative style.

The students will be on their way to becoming master writers with the requested candies and pencils. They will be given an experience they will never forget (and will be able to write about!)
