We are a neighborhood school on the south side of town. Our population is made up of working class families. Our students range from kindergarten to fourth grade. Although we represent the working class, 60% of our families qualify for free and reduced meals and 27% qualify for special education services. We also serve students with behavioral needs with level 3 programming.
Our families see education as a valuable means of making their children's lives even better.
Some families are working two or three jobs, which leaves little time for extras like vacations or even trips to museums a couple hours away. However, they want their children to experience all that they can. We serve children who come from farms, woods, lakes, the surrounding neighborhood, and the local women's shelter.
Our students enter our building excited about learning and rely on our school for trust and a sense of belonging. We have a staff of professionals who work together to create the best education possible. We work to encourage and promote positive relationships with each other as well as with our students. Many have entered our neighborhood school and are amazed at our family environment.
My Project
At our school, our goal is to bring our students to places around the world through the implementation of Virtual Reality Expeditions technology. Within this Expeditions kit are included 30 viewers, 30 display devices, 30 cases and chargers. This kit will be shared for our entire school population of 250 students kindergarten through fourth grade.
By implementing this technology our students will develop their working knowledge of the world around them without leaving the classroom.
These devices will be utilized throughout all curricular areas to build background knowledge, thereby creating a stronger foundation for learning and connecting to the real world.
