I work in a Title I district that was greatly effected by Hurricane Harvey last year. Over 60% of our students and staff lost everything in the flood that was caused by Hurricane Harvey. Due to the extensive damage to our homes many of our students are still displaced and not yet back in their homes.
Since many of my students are still displaced, I would like for their time here at school to really make an impact on them.
I feel that when they come to school, they should be fully engaged. With that being said, having the proper materials and supplies needed will help in this process.
Science can be messy at times and our school lacks a proper science lab. My classroom has no sink and that makes it harder to clean up our classroom after a lab. Due to this we sometimes move our lab to the to our art room that is closer to the restrooms for easier clean up. When doing this, we spend a lot of our available time moving materials from one room to the other. With this portable lab station, I can have all materials ready and just move the cart with me as we go. The cart also has an easel section that will allow for me to write down important information for my students when given them lab directions. This comes in handy because our art room does not have a board for me to write on.
