My Project

Every year, as part of a cross-curricular project, our 2nd grade class creates a live wax- museum of historical figures. The students each choose a historical icon, read biographies, collect data, create fact posters, make time lines, compare/contrast people and events, and more, all in the effort to learn about history and the impact of these people. On the big day, families are invited to come listen to speeches, written by the students from the perspective of these important historical figures. The students even dress like the person they have researched. It is like a wax museum coming to life! I am always amazed at the depth in which students learn throughout this project!

Our challenge has been that students must choose from our limited available biographies, most of which are written for older, more advanced readers.

This can really be difficult for many students to navigate. A broad collection of biographies would provide students with better options and allow for independent reading. This would make the whole project a much richer experience for them!
