This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are from a high poverty school in Denver. Our teachers constantly strive to provide an authentic education and experiences for our students but it's difficult because we don't have funds in our budget. We are limited to only 1 field trip a year and often students struggle to learn only through textbooks and they lack the real-world experiences and opportunities to explore. 97% of our students are on free or reduced-priced lunch, therefore it's difficult for our families to travel and to even provide students with necessities to travel.

My Project

Our students are on free and reduced-priced lunch. Our schools can rarely support our students to learn through experiences and most of our students have never traveled outside of Colorado. Our teachers have been working hard to write grants for our 5th graders to go to Washington DC to experience everything they've read about. However, we are asking for travel items for our students. By giving our students hats, water bottles, toiletries, and other travel necessities, we will able to make the most out of the trip. The costs of these extra items will be a burden for our students and this project will help ensure our students that they can walk around DC and museums to truly enjoy the trip.
