Travel Around the World...through Books!

Help me give my students a collection of fairy tales from around the world to help them learn about different cultures.

My Students

Our school is located in a lower socioeconomic area. All students receive a free breakfast and many qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch. Despite all the challenges my students face, their attitudes towards learning are positive and they give their best everyday.

My students come in each day with a smile on their face and ready to learn.

It is my job to make that enthusiasm last all day. A day in our 2nd grade classroom is jam-packed with learning and fun. We learn in a variety of ways to keep learning interesting and students motivated.

My Project

One of the memorable parts of 2nd grades is my students get to travel around the world and learn about different cultures...all through the magic of books! We even create passports to track our travels! I'm requesting a variety of fairy tales from around the world to help my students gain insight into other cultures; as well as to assist them in becoming proficient with the skill of comparing and contrasting.

My students love getting their passport stamped each day, as they travel to a new country through a story!

They come in each day during the unit asking, "Where do we get to visit today?" They enjoy learning about different cultures and hearing the variety in familiar tales, such as, Cinderella and Red Riding Hood. We’ve even been able to incorporate map skills into this unit by locating each country on the world map.

Having these books on hand will make this unit run so smoothly, as I know I will have access to all the books I need to make this an engaging and meaningful unit.
