My Project
I am requesting 13 copies of Dr. Bruce Perry's book The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog. We will be using this text as part of am educator training program focused on childhood trauma and brain development. During my time as a classroom teacher, this text was transformative in how I approached classroom management. As a social work intern, I will be leading a book study on this topic, with the hopes of supporting teachers as they deal with increasingly difficult student behaviors.
The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog combines anecdotal evidence and case studies, from a career in the field, with cutting edge neuroscience to explain trauma and the healing process.
Through this book study, teachers at our elementary school will be prepared to nurture and support high-needs kiddos, help students regulate their emotions, and give staff the tools and language to teach their classes about brain development.
