Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach at a school with many at-risk students and they have a hard time in their homes and most already come below grade level. Many have a hard time in school because of their home life and the neighborhoods they live in. Many struggle in their education daily but they want to be successful.

I feel that in order for my students to be successful and for them to have a leg up on the "competition," they need all the help that the school can provide to them and help them to know that their dreams and goals are attainable.

I am trying to get these students to experience a college campus as well as getting to compete against other students on their Math Facts.

My Project

My students need transportation to and from Eastern Michigan University so that they can attend and participate in the annual Math Facts Challenge.

My Project

Our students do not get the opportunity to visit college campuses and many think that it is not within their reach to attend college. This gives some of our students the opportunity to visit a university and participate in the annual Math Facts Challenge that takes place there.

They will have the chance to compete, which they have earned, and look at all the exciting things that there are on a college campus.

If they are able to see it, then they may believe that they can achieve it. Our students deserve this experience and deserve to have the opportunity to go!
