Translating Hope: Giving My Students the Power to Understand

Help me give my students the gift of independence by providing translating pens that will let them read, understand, and succeed on their own.

My Project

As a 5th-grade teacher, I have the privilege of working with a diverse group of students, nearly 45% of whom are multilingual learners. Every day, I see them show up with determination and a strong desire to succeed. However, it breaks my heart when they struggle to fully engage with the lessons because so much of what we do is in English, and not all of them have a peer who speaks their language to help. Despite their hard work, the language barrier makes them feel disconnected, and I can see how it affects their confidence and progress.

Translating pens would be a game-changer for my students.

These pens would give them the freedom to understand lessons and materials on their own, without the frustration of waiting for assistance. It would empower them to take control of their learning, translating texts and instructions at their own pace. With these pens, they wouldn’t feel left out — they’d feel included and capable, and they could focus on the content, not just the language.

By donating to this project, you’ll be giving my students more than just a tool — you’ll be giving them a sense of independence and the confidence to thrive in the classroom. These translating pens will allow them to access their full potential, engage with the lessons, and participate fully in the learning process.
