The new translation devices have helped bridge that gap. Now, instead of feeling stuck or unsure, students can quickly check a word, clarify a direction, or understand a question on their own. This technology gives them the confidence to keep going without feeling embarrassed or left behind. It's like placing a helping hand right beside them whenever they need it.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting things for my students is how easy the tools are to use. They love being able to tap a button or scan a word and instantly understand what it means. Many of them smile or sigh with relief when the translation pops up, especially during reading and science. It's amazing to watch how something so small can make such a big difference.\r\n\r\nSome students, in particular, have really grown because of this project. One of my newcomers, who arrived with very little English, now participates in group work with confidence. Another student who used to quietly shut down during writing time has started completing assignments on his own because he can finally understand what the task is asking. These aren't small victories—they are transformational moments that build independence and pride.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has opened doors for my students. You've helped them understand, communicate, and believe in themselves. From all of us in our 5th-grade classroom: thank you for giving my students the power to make sense of their learning and feel included in every part of our day.\r\n\r\nWith deep appreciation,\r\nJennifer Fowler\r\n5th Grade Teacher","fullyFundedDate":1752671567024,"projectUrl":"project/translating-hope-giving-my-students-the/9289560/","projectTitle":"Translating Hope: Giving My Students the Power to Understand","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fowler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1696795_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745834692054","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/aggieteacher2012"},{"teacherId":9423462,"projectId":8769934,"letterContent":"I cannot say thank you enough for your generosity. People often learn about my students, their needs, and how hard teachers (like myself) work to provide these opportunities and aren't sure how to help. Learning about funding through donors choose was the best thing that has ever happened to me as a special ed teacher. Thank you for making projects possible - I am forever grateful for the projects you made possible. \r\n\r\nWith the donations you made, I was able to print adapted books in color from our curriculum. I made safer communication boards and schedule pieces with the foam and laminate. I used the buttons to create verbal repetition of common routines and spaces. It seems simple but my students who are nonverbal love pressing the button that says \"I need to go to the bathroom\", \"I'm ready for lunch\", \"getting my morning work\". We practiced introducing ourselves during morning meeting simply by programming the buttons to say their names. Many of my students this year have never had a voice that they can represent or approximate as their own. After these initial experiences, they were so excited to engage with the buttons. They remain motivated to approximate the verbalizations that they hear. I feel so lucky to have experienced my students finding their voice for the first time. \r\n\r\nThank you, thank you, thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1726680701085,"projectUrl":"project/building-adapted-and-individualized-clas/8769934/","projectTitle":"Building Adapted and Individualized Classroom Communication","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kaila","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9423462"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1867","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":531,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":39,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":42,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.7,"schoolId":1867,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Millbrook Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Millbrook Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/wake-county-public-school-system/millbrook-elementary-school/1867"}
