Help me give my students updated equipment for vocational training to support a school based enterprise for students with significant cognitive deficits gain functional skills.
Many self-contained and resource classes utilize a school-based enterprise for meeting those transition goals. Our school is no different; we run a weekly coffee cart for the staff of our middle school. The focus of instruction is functional academics, independent living skills, and vocational preparation to aid with those basic skills to prepare students for more intense life skills training in high school.
I also coordinate with my related service personnel to help with visual aids and/or assistive technology devices that allow all students to participate in some capacity.
The result of the hard work is worth it. The staff members love the interaction and treats. The kids gain valuable life skills. And perhaps the most enticing, the class earns funds to support other activities such as field trips and purchase of class materials and supplies.
I am asking for new equipment so my students can gain practical experience on actual pieces of equipment that could be found in the competitive small business workplace.
