Transforming the Way Students Create Art By Using Technology

Help me give my students a Microsoft laptop so that they have the technology to bring the visuals from art history and our contemporary world into our 21st Century classroom by turning classic artworks into digital media and beyond.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a diverse group of learners including female and male students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Over 75% of my students come from low-income families. I have students with a range of special needs such as autism, intellectual disability, visual impairment, physical disability, and ADHD. I also have English language learners who need additional instructional support. Overall, my students are eager to learn about art, and I am always seeking ways to make their learning a more successful experience that will impact their lives.

My students do not have technology to use in the classroom.

Being able to create Art requires having access to a lot of visuals. My students are very creative at brainstorming ideas for their projects but need visuals. Some of them would like to pursue a career in digital arts but lack the resources to learn. They would love to have access to a computer to learn digital art-making. They would also like to be able to conduct research and incorporate their findings visually through their artwork. I currently do not have a computer to lend them in our classroom to support them with technology usage.

My Project

Technology transforms student learning experiences. Not all of my students own a computer or tablet at home. The Microsoft Surface laptop will enable my students to have access to technology in the classroom. It will also give my students the opportunity to research and explore various types of art to incorporate into their art projects. I am trying to build a laptop cart for my classroom, making this one the first. By having laptops, I will be able to install various software such as Photoshop and Illustrator to teach my students digital art such as creating book illustrations, animation, and comics. Additionally, it will allow my students to feed their creativity, find their individualism, and learn about their unique artistic styles. Access to this technology will also prepare them for college-level digital art courses.

Digital Art has become a revolutionary form of art and students need laptops to keep up with society.

Art-making has continued to evolve and it is important to adjust my instruction to align with its advancement. I would like to have technology in the classroom to provide my students with instant access to knowledge.
