Transforming Science Labs Using Argument Driven Inquiry
I need the three different Argument Driven Inquiry teacher books for engaging labs in physical, earth and space, and life science. I also need the two Formative Assessment Probes before introducing new topics.
I am blessed to teach in a suburban community where education is a priority within the community. This past school year, my students loved participating in science labs and activities that I planned for them. Getting to work with their peers to solve a problem in a hands on way is one reason many students love science. However, I feel like my students would take more away from a lab experience that is more authentic and engaging.
While summer vacation is a time where students and teachers get to unwind and relax with their families, it is also a time where teachers reflect and learn new strategies to motivate a new group of students.
My Project
Reading these Argument Driven Inquiry teacher books will help me become more deeply invested in the ADI approach and grant me the much needed confidence to shift away from traditional labs. The Formative Assessment Probes books will help me pre-assess student knowledge before introducing new topics.
All of these professional development books will help me grow as an educator teaching middle school science.
My 8th grade students will learn science in a more engaging and authentic lab environment thanks to the ADI approach, and I will learn more about my students' individual needs thanks to the results I'll learn from Formative Assessment Probes.
