it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title I school, and my students are truly special to me. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many face challenges outside of the classroom, but despite that, they are incredibly curious, eager to learn, and always excited to explore new things.
The Floor Table will be the start of our flexible seating journey.
My classroom has relied on traditional desks, which are too large and difficult for my 5-6 year old students to use comfortably. It's especially challenging when they can barely reach their desks, making it harder for them to engage. By introducing flexible seating options like the floor table, students can choose where they work whether it’s sitting on the floor with a cushion, working in small groups, or using a more comfortable space for focused learning.
This flexibility will empower my students to take ownership of their learning environment, keeping them engaged, comfortable, and excited to participate. Flexible seating encourages collaboration, fosters independence, and gives students the tools to be more self-directed in their learning.
This project will be the first step toward transforming our classroom into a space that truly meets my students' needs. Moving away from traditional desks will make our classroom more accessible and comfortable, giving students the freedom to explore, create, and grow.
What makes my students so special is their resilience and enthusiasm for learning. By providing them with flexible seating, I believe they can accomplish amazing things. It will help them focus, collaborate, and thrive, setting them up for success both now and in the future.
