Transforming My Classroom into a Think Tank With Kagan Strategies

I need to attend the Kagan Winter Academy and need workshop fees, lodging, transportation, food allowance, common core instructional resources, a laminator and film cost covered.

My Students

I am a National Board Certified Teacher who works at a Title I elementary school.

Many of my students come from military families and their experiences are often brought into the classroom.

More than 50 percent of the students at my school receive free or reduced lunch. My classroom is one that is diverse in learning styles, cultures, and interests. It is the varied backgrounds of my students that evokes wonderful classroom discussions and allows my students to learn from their peers' perspectives respectfully.

My Project

I need to attend the Kagan Winter Academy to learn how to implement instructional strategies to engage and develop the 15 most fundamental thinking skills. This hands-on workshop will help me transform my classroom into a think tank! These thinking skills will help my students to make smart financial decisions. Students will enhance their problem solving skills and brainstorm ways they can save money.

This workshop will prepare my students with thinking skills they will use for a lifetime!

The Common Core instructional resources will provide me with a guide of research based instructional skills I can use and reference. The workshop will bring the research to the forefront. The laminator and film will be used to create and preserve thinking skill posters for my students to reference on a daily basis. The National Geographic Book about wealth and money will provide my students with a realistic look at finances and how they apply to life choices.
