Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in the southwest of Houston. Last year many students' homes were severely affected by the Hurricane Harvey. They are nevertheless resilient and hardworking, creative and talented.
About 88% of students receives free or reduced-price lunch, 68% are English Language Learners (ELL) — newcomers to this country.
Some of my students speak no English at all. Their home languages include Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Igbo, Kirundi, Farsi, Urdu and Cantonese/Mandarin. I hope to provide them with the best support that I can give and the opportunity to explore technology-based learning and enrichment.
As their math teacher with diverse students, my goal is to personalize learning to this diverse cohort.
My Project
For most of my students, they will enjoy a classroom transformed from the old hand-written projector, wired speaker into an efficient and technology-driven math learning classroom.
These materials will drive exploration during my enrichment class and will serve as tools to support instruction of mathematics.
Using an iPad, I will be able to SET UP a technology-driven workstation for the kids especially provide ESL student with the Spanish-English translation that they desperately need. Using the speaker, I will be able to play the Flocabulary learning videos out loud and have both the front and back of the room hearing this digital learning resource, help the kids understand the concept. Use the printer to create and print more pictorial explanations, as I integrate more interactive art and craft activities (aka fun) into my kid's learning.
