My Project

Booker T. Washington Senior High is a historic school in Miami, my 10th-grade Intensive Reading students are filled with creativity, ambition, and the drive to succeed. Yet, despite their determination, the majority of my students come from a low socioeconomic neighborhood that resides around the school. Individual use of technology is not always guaranteed, laptop carts are distributed to one to 4 teachers per department, resulting in minimal usage to none with our reading curriculum.

The use of iPads, along with the Apple Pencil, would enhance small-group independent reading and motivate my students to improve their reading comprehension and digital literacy.

In our classroom, reading is more than just opening a book; it's about in-depth analysis of the texts, and sharing understanding of ideas with the world. These tools allow them to annotate texts seamlessly, participate in interactive reading comprehension workshops, and create powerful multimedia projects. Imagine students projecting their connection of literature to visualization of digital stories, and class collaboration presented on the Prometheum board via our existing Apple TV, transforming their learning into a truly interactive and collaborative experience.

These iPads would also enable my students to practice digital note-taking, explore research projects, and make deeper connections to our curriculum. For many of my students, this would be their first real opportunity to develop 21st-century skills essential for college and career readiness.
