Transforming Classrooms and Transforming Learning!

My Students

This first period of teaching has been a thrill. I have met my fifth-grade students and let me tell you, they are amazing. Fifth graders are such a fun age group. They understand sarcasm, they can have deep intellectual conversations, they can learn in-depth concepts and think on a higher level. That isn't to say they aren't energetic, creative, fun-loving, and excited to learn.

When I am around fifth graders, my heart is full of joy and laughter; they keep me excited and on my toes at all times.

I am so excited to be teaching these students, and future students to come so that I can help them learn to their fullest abilities and grow beyond their own limits.

My Project

The following items in this project will be used for two different classroom transformations. The first transformation will be Toy Story-themed, and it will help encourage STEAM projects. This will allow students to get creative and use materials not necessarily used within the general ed classroom. The LEGOS will go towards the classroom for building and engineering.

Classroom transformations not only change the environment of the classroom but it also transforms learning for the students.

The second transformation will be basketball-related so that we can participate in March madness. Instead of being related to basketball teams, we will focus our bracket on picture books to encourage independent reading. So why do a classroom transformation? Here are words from another teacher as to why classroom transformations are important: "They are SO much fun for your students and your students get so engaged that they don't even realize that they are learning. I typically do a transformation during my most rigorous content! They stay focused the entire time and truly learn so much!" I would love to create an environment for my students where learning is really engaging, fun, and academic.

Having an opportunity to engage my students this way will help after such an educational loss during covid. I feel as though kids have started liking school less and less due to covid procedures and the trauma it's creating for them. I think having interactive projects/rooms for kids will help spark the joy in school and encourage kids to come to class more!
