This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) nurtures students' generous spirit, fostering global and local engagement through authentic, experiential learning. Every lesson is designed to enlighten, encourage, and transform, equipping students to tackle real-world challenges.

Tools like obstacle course play tents, folding tables, and flags are pivotal in achieving these goals.

The obstacle course cultivates vital Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. As students navigate challenges, they hone thinking skills through problem-solving and strategic planning. Self-management skills develop through improved coordination, balance, and resilience, boosting confidence. Collaborative course activities also enhance communication and social skills, promoting teamwork and constructive feedback. This physical engagement provides a hands-on pathway to apply core subject knowledge and understand physical capabilities.

Flags serve as powerful educational instruments, aligning with the MYP's focus on global contexts and intercultural understanding. Researching various flags deepens communication and research skills, uncovering cultural significance and historical contexts. By exploring diverse flags, students cultivate open-mindedness and knowledgeable perspectives on different nations and societal structures. These symbols prompt inquiry into "big ideas" like identity, power, and representation, bridging concepts across disciplines.

These tangible resources offer a dynamic "jumping point" for students to actively apply core subject knowledge. This integrated approach ensures students not only gain academic proficiency but also develop into compassionate, critical thinkers ready to make a tangible difference in their local community and on a global scale.
