This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 4th and 5th grade classroom is in the process of transforming into a truly inclusive space for all students. One of our greatest challenges is creating a physically-accommodating space for students with different learning needs. With calm strips and bouncy bands for all chairs, students with a variety of needs will be able to be successful in an inclusive setting.
Our district is switching towards a fully inclusive model and sensory tools in all classroom will play a crucial role in that transition.
Our students are participating in transformative work in Science, Literature, Math, and Critical Consciousness activities.
In a classroom space where students are participating in Spanish and English instruction through a bilingual setting it is imperative that they have their sensory needs met in order to participate in instruction. These bands are durable, high-quality, and I have seen visible improvement with the two I currently have. My goal is to have a class-set so all students can have access to their benefits.
