My Project
Provide students with a multidimensional educational experience that stimulates curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking skills by hatching their own chicks in the classroom. The students’ goal is to examine and explain the difference between inherited traits and learned behaviors of their own hatched chicks. Furthermore, students will explain how learned behaviors can be a result of factors or conditions in the environment.
Science is Egg-Citing and this project would bring that to life for our 5th grade students!
The incubator will foster a safe environment to keep fertilized eggs warm, humid and allow students to track the growth process of the embryos. While observing the eggs, students would learn about the stages of development and what factors influence the growth of a chicken embryo.
Watching the embryos grow and chicks hatch allows students to develop observational skills. They can track changes in behavior, physical appearance, and growth over time, honing their scientific observation skills.
Watching chicks hatch and grow can evoke strong emotional responses in students, fostering a sense of wonder, excitement, and joy. These emotional connections can enhance their learning experience and make lessons more memorable.
