My students need the opportunity to experience Michigan history in a concrete way that will help bring their social studies curriculum to life. We need admission to the Greenfield Village.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our third grade are a lively, inquisitive group eager to expand their knowledge of the world around them. Unfortunately, while these students have many differences in terms of background, ethnicity, family make-up, etc., a common characteristic among them is a lack of financial resources.
Over 90 percent of these children are eligible for, and receive, free breakfast and lunch at school due to their families' socio-economic status.
In efforts to offset the disadvantages many of our students experience, our school houses a parent resource room to assist parents in their efforts to provide support for their families in a variety of areas. We have also begun implementation of STEM so that our students have more opportunities to engage in science, technology, and math activities. Our students, however, need more. Unfortunately, the funding is just not available to cover the "extras" really needed to provide equitable learning experiences for these children.
My Project
Our students have the desire to learn, but have limited real-life experiences to use in making connections between the content they are taught and the world they live in. The opportunity to see so many inventions first-hand at the Greenfield Village, as well as workshops and artifacts of people they have read about and studied, will bring a richness and meaning to the lessons they have experienced in the classroom in a highly engaging way.
It is our hope and intent that providing our students with experiences outside the classroom will not only build upon their background knowledge to prepare them for future learning, but that it will help instill a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their lives.
