My Students
My classroom is a place where students from many different backgrounds are able to come together to form an amazing classroom community. We work hard together, challenge each other, solve problems together, and show our support to those around us as we strive to grow both academically and as individuals.
By providing hands on experiences and opportunities to solve real life problems, our classroom is not only full of rigor, but it also encourages students to take ownership of what we are learning.
Students are excited to come to class to see what new project or problem we are tackling that day and can't wait to see what a new day will bring.
My Project
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The mind once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions." Students in my classroom are challenged every day in core subjects but I wanted to challenge and stretch their critical thinking in a new way. As I studied how critical thinking and the brain works, I recognized an area I don't utilize enough: playing brain games.
While my students regularly see challenges in their STEM class and work to solve real world application problems in math, not all student learn with the same methods.
With brain games, I saw a way to develop critical thinking skills with all students, particularly those that may not always excel in traditional activities sometimes required in core classes.
Through this project students will have weekly access to various types of math games dedicated to improve different cognitive and strategy skills. Students can use these tools at learning stations or independently when they have finished other assignments. We'll improve our logical thinking and spatial awareness with Brain Teaser Puzzles. These activities provided by your donation will help empower students to increase their cognitive abilities in a fun and stress free way. Many of the games require multiple players so students are also working on verbal skills, social skills, and learning to adapt on the go.
