This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Although I have only interacted with my students in our virtual classroom thus far, I have established a relationship with them. My students are a wonderful group of students that are not only learners but my teachers as well. They come with a wealth of knowledge and I am taking advantage of the fact that they are learning from home during this pandemic to highlight their families' histories. At the same time, my students and I are learning a lot from our circumstances and have been exploring what it means to be kind, have determination, be courageous, display self-less leadership, and creativity in our virtual space.

My Project

Supplementing our history curriculum with the narratives of those who are usually left out will give my students the opportunity to learn about how the Cherokee nation underwent the sad and painful removal from their land. To avoid events in history that we are not proud of to repeat themselves, we must learn about them. This book will give my students the opportunity to learn not only to learn about the Cherokee trail of tears, but they will also be able to engage in a novel study which also helps develop a sense of community within our virtual classroom.
