Children are hands-on learners. It is essential that teachers can provide their students materials that allow them to learn in ways that meet their various unique needs. Children need a chance to experiment as they learn.
My students come from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and family structures.
For some of my students, our school is their first structured educational environment, while other students come from many preschool experiences. I teach primary grades at a very large, rural public school. 48% of our school is economically disadvantaged. All of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch. My kiddos love to learn. They are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging activities. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
My Project
Children enter my room with a wide range of ability and skill levels. By using ESGI, I am able to quickly assess their skill level on a wide range of content areas such as letter identification, letter sounds, shapes, numbers, and sight words just to name a few. ESGI allows me to quickly look at data to form small groups and for conferring and strategy groups so children are working with appropriate peers.
ESGI then allows teachers to know what level the students are on and helps them make appropriate learning goals for upcoming units.
ESGI prints individualized flash cards for the students to work with, so they are working at their own level and pace. This allows me as the teacher to individualize learning for all of my students across all content areas that are assessed. It prints unique letters for parents documenting what each child knows and what they do not know. This strengthens the home/school connection so everyone is helping children on the correct and individualized learning needs.
