This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 25 energetic and ready to learn Kindergarten students.
For most of my students, this is their first school experience and I want for it to be a memorable one!
Kindergarten is one of the first foundations for the rest of their educational careers and your donation will help me maximize their experiences. Our school is located in South Los Angeles, California. We are a 100% Title I school, which means all of our students qualify for free meals.
My Project
My students love to play outdoors. During recess they play on the tricycles, throw and catch balls, play with hola hoops, the sand center, or simply run around in the yard. Then one day they noticed my fitbit and began asking questions about it. What it's for , what it does, and why I use it. I demonstrated my heart rate and steps with my fitbit, and that began a conversation about how they could monitor their physical activity using electronic devices such as smart bracelets. My students love the idea of using something that SHOWS them how fast they move or how much they move.
This "kid inspired" project aims to help my students make the connections between physical activity and a healthy body by tracking their weekly activity as a team.By dividing the class into 8 teams and having students take turns wearing the step tracker during recess and physical education, my students will be able to work together to increase their physical activity.
They are most excited to find out which activities track the most steps!
With the iPad and VGA adapter connected to our projector, students will be able to visually see the progress they have made during the week as a team. Using this data, teams will be able to set team goals and check every week on the progress towards those goals.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
