This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Outside. Seems like such a nice place. The challenge is getting kids to go there, and maybe learn a thing or two while they are there!

My students attend a public school in an urban setting.

A solid majority of the students at our school are low-income. Kids in an environment such as this usually fall into the category of high-risk students. Regardless of their socio-economic status, these students work hard and, as children, have an amazing capacity for absorbing new information and ideas.

My Project

I am requesting 5 GPS systems in order to engage students in team activities which will center around a microcache. Each cache will contain questions or activities that need to be completed before students can advance into the next stage. All questions and tasks will be designed to increase student knowledge of the environment in which the game is set up. Field trips to local environmental centers will be set up in order to facilitate these activities. Technology will drive their learning of our natural environment!

Kids in the city don't get outdoors much.

That is the simple truth. My goal is to get them to experience nature and the Earth in new and exciting ways. Working together, learning about the outdoors, capitalizing on a child's love of games. This will set up an experience these kids will not ever forget!
