Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are exciting, enthusiastic, lifelong learners who are from various backgrounds, most struggling economically and/or with the English language.
As an ATPE teacher in a low income/high poverty area, my students look forward to school in order to keep their minds off the situations they encounter in their home life.
The recent devastation from Hurricane Harvey has made their year harder to cope with. Regardless of what they leave at home, they walk through the school doors with smiles and enthusiasm to learn! I see the fire for learning in each and every student and I want to fuel that fire with fun new ways of learning. By providing the students with new and exciting things every day I hope to encourage their minds to seek the best for themselves no matter what situation they are faced with.
My Project
We live in a world of data and accountability, and though that isn’t bad, it is time-consuming. ESGI is an assessment software that makes tracking and sharing student progress a breeze!
This software will improve students' academic success by allowing for quick and easy assessments.
Assessments are an important part of teaching as the results of the assessments drive instruction. However, assessments can also take away instructional time because they can be lengthy to administer. This assessment software is also a great benefit to families. After doing the assessment, ESGI generates parent letters and flashcards that can be printed and sent home. ESGI can do this in multiple languages; facilitating communication with families who speak a different language at home. Reinforcement of skills at home will assist students in becoming successful readers.
Much of the learning that happens in kindergarten, needs to be measured in a one-on-one format between teacher and student.
ESGI allows for this to be done quickly and efficiently for each student. Kindergarten students should not be assessed solely with paper and pencil tests. ESGI allows assessments to be done in a much more child-friendly way and presents the information in a way that both students and parents can understand.
