My Project
After having been trained in the IMSE Orton-Gillingham Program I am realizing it is very difficult to keep the older elementary students engaged along with a starting point. Part of my school wide Intervention is right before lunch which is very difficult given my room is located in the cafeteria. It was a room added years ago to it. I get 30min with some very hungry 3rd and 4th graders. I usually take first 5 min to get settled and they get a super quick snack to help tide them over. Every minute counts with every student all day long, not just those two groups.
I have been researching programs and the Intermediate Elementary Program that is also on TeachersPayTeachers.com seems to be the real deal.
Is is 150.00 for the complete program. I asked for a little extra for other supplementary materials. Why reinvent the wheel right now? Whether the kids are behind due to lack of instruction from the COVID Pandemic or have a disability or whatever, they are behind and every minute counts so being efficient is critical with the little time we interventionist teachers and speech pathologists get with students.
The Science of Reading benefits all, that is the beauty of it and it is a shame that decades long research has taken this long to take effect. Change is hard, no one likes change! But Change and outside the box methods is what causes progress with greater success for our students/our children.
