This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a group of the smartest little learners in my entire school! They come from different backgrounds; some ride the bus in from far away neighborhoods, and some live across the street. We are a blended Special Education and Bilingual classroom within a 90%+ free or reduced-price lunch within a school.
Pre-kindergarten is one of the most important grades in school.
It is the time when students get hooked on education. The best way to hook them is with adapted materials that will allow them to learn in an individualized way.
My Project
We need new manipulatives to help my students get age-appropriate practice with math concepts. Pre-k manipulatives (toys) are not 'just for playing'.
Student lead centers help my students problem-solve, practice math skills (such as counting, patterning, one-to-one correspondence) all while under the guise of play.
Our STEAM strong curricula coupled with fun manipulatives will help my students be able to problem-solve real-world solutions to the problems we face in the 21st century, all while they think they are playing pretend games.
Getting a brand new table toys center will also help complete our classroom in a year when playing together looked very different.
