Toys and Manipulatives for Young Learners

Help me give my students a library of fun, engaging toys and manipulatives for creative and collaborative learning opportunities. These resources are great for young learners and allow them safe opportunities to practice skills like patience and sharing.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I was hired to be a school librarian after studying English and Education in college. During my student teaching, I worked with high schoolers and now I work primarily with early elementary schoolers.

In my teaching, I have seen the value of collaborative play between students and would like supplies to support my students in learning how to work collaboratively, listen to others, and be responsible for their belongings.

In the elementary school setting, the students are not just learning content, but also how to engage with the world kindly. I have watched my students consider how their actions will impact others because they see their friend with a toy they want. When students do not have enough toys to go around, they are more likely to struggle with sharing and playing cooperatively. Having enough toys for every student will give them a better chance to learn these skills, without the stress of a scarcity mindset holding them back.

To us adults, toys can seem like frivolous things. But, to my young students, they are a source of joy, friendship, and imagination. I hope you will consider donating to my students so they can engage with the world around them more kindly.
